Finding their forever home

Posted on 10/02/2012

26th May 2012

The competition is hotting up and  everyone is stating “I will win”  But who will find there way back first?????????

And how will they get back?

Will it be by Train?  Taxi?  Walking?

Some say they can parachute!!!!!  Yes parachute!  Some say they going to get a helicopter smiley

Four teams of five people will be dropped 100 miles away from the animal centre in Oldham.  They will be given a pre paid mobile phone with no numbers stored and a camera.  They have to find they way back to their forever home at the Animal Centre in Oldham by whatever means possible.  On their travels they have to be pictured with a police officer, in uniform, a dog and a traffic cone!!!  They also have to have their picture taken eating a free meal.

They are going to try and blag a free ride on public transport or maybe see if someone will donate a taxi fare.

They will not put themselves in any dangerous situations but let’s see who makes it back first.

The teams are as follows:

The Dream Team
No Hopers
The Wanderers
The Cowboys

Sponsor forms will be available on line very soon and please support this cause.

Mandy Tierney wins Business Woman of the Year

Posted on 24/06/2011 13:54:00

A decade of dedication paid off for Mandy Tierney, who picked up the Businesswoman of the Year award for her role as branch manager for the Royal Society for the Protection of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) in Oldham.

Mandy has overseen an increase in turnover from £45,000 to over £650,000 during her time at the Rhodes Bank base.

She said: “I’m amazed, I have the best job in the world and I love going to work every day. I owe a lot to my team, a lot of emotion goes into helping animals at their lowest ebb. We’ll be back here in five years time taking over £5 million so we can help thousands more animals. I hope the award will raise awareness of what we do and the fact that we are self-funded.”

Were always here to support you and your animal

Posted on 13/06/2011 15:33:00

Our work does not finish once you take the animal home, we will continue to support you and the animal for as long as you need us. Please remember that pet ownership takes time, money, commitment and patience - owning a pet is likely to change your life completely.

If you already own an animal and need help or assistance please telephone us as you may qualify for some help including free microchipping and neutering.

We currently have nine charity shops that raise money to assist us with the work we do. These shops rely solely on donated goods. To find out more details please visit the charity shops section of the website.

We rely heavily on help from volunteers, from helping at the animal centre to helping in our shops or fundraising for our branch. It does not matter if you only have 1 hour a week to spare we always need help and we would not be able to continue without our dedicated team of volunteers. If you are interested in volunteering at our branch please contact us to discuss the matter further.

Please spend a few moments looking at our site and consider whether you can help us in this vital work.

You can also help us in many ways (every little thing you can do to help – WILL HELP):

  • You can offer time to volunteer in the animal centre or simply walk our dogs for us.
  • You can volunteer in one of our 10 charity shops situated in the Bury and Oldham area.
  • You can make donations of clothes, bric-a-brac or furniture.
  • You can donate animal food, bedding and towels - these are always appreciated at the animal centre.

The branch is run by staff; however we rely heavily on volunteers. We currently have nine shops, a furniture distribution centre situated in the Bury and Oldham Area and we have a rehoming centre in Oldham.

Our animal welfare work covers rehoming, assisted neutering and microchipping and also a mobile welfare veterinary clinic which goes out and about fortnightly offering greatly reduced veterinary assistance to all animal owners in receipt of certain benefits.

We also regularly fundraise and promote the profile of animal welfare issues within our area.
