Animals for adoption

Animal Adoption Procedures

Before being made ready for adoption, any animal that comes into the animal centre undergoes a ten day assessment. We evaluate the animals temperament to the best of our knowledge and all dogs are seen by a canine behaviour and training specialist.

We apologise if the animal of your choice is unsuitable for your household but these decisions are made in the animal's best long term interest.

The Bury, Oldham & District Branch Mission Statement is:

To ensure as far as is practical the HEATH, WELFARE and
QUALITY OF LIFE of all the animals in our care.

If for some reason you are unsuitable for the animal of your choice please do speak to a member of our staff and they will be happy to look at what other animals we have available that may suit you better. Please remember we are here to help you find the most suitable animal for your lifestyle.

Steps for Adoption

  1. View animals that are ready for adoption.
  2. Ask a member of staff for further details about any animal you are interested in.
  3. Dogs - you will be invite to take th dog of your choice for a short walk.
  4. Cats - a member of staff will open the pen so that you can meet properly.
  5. A home visitor will call to see you (this is to ensure that the right animal is rehomed to the right people) - we aim to do home visits within 10 days of you completing an application form.
  6. You will be encouraged to visit during this interim period and if you are adopting a dog you will need to take it for a second walk. We want you to be completely sure that you understand the commitment of taking on a pet.
  7. Once a home visit has been passed we will arrange an appointment for the adoption.
  8. Adoption day - if adopting a dog please remember it is a legal requirement for it to wear a collar and contact disc. These can be purchased from the animal centre shop. If adopting a cat you will need a secure carrior or box to transport it home in - these can also be purchased from the animal centre shop.
  9. Post home visit. Usually after about six weeks following adoption we will call to see you to make sure both yourself and your new pet are happy.

Prices of Adoption

Dogs (including puppies) - £85
Cats (including kittens) - £40

The price of adoption includes neutering, microchipping and temporary vaccination.

Vaccinations must be followed by a booster every 12 months plus regular worming and fleaing treatments. All veterinary costs are now the responsibility of the adopter.

Pet Insurance

We recommend that you insure your animals.

Chances are your pet will lead a long and happy life. However, there is always the possibility that they will be involved in an accident or develop a serious illness. If this happens it can quickly lead to expensive vet bills amounting to hundreds or thousands of pounds. Without adequate cover, would you be able to afford the bill yourself?
